Accepting having a personality much to the disdain of some people

Image
This week, as I reflect on my blog, I came to the realization that I have always been mentally blogging funny things. I have offered a small glimpse into my mind these past 7 weeks that I had kept to myself for 17 years. My brain holds great regard to humor, and I wouldn't have it any other way.  Humor is subjective, and my humor is certainly not transcendent to every individual. I understand that some people would struggle to understand the things I find funny, just like I might not understand some else's sense of humor.  With that being said, I think it's important to be kind.  Epictetus once said: "Forgive others for their misdeeds over and over again. This gesture fosters inner ease."  I will focus on actually doing an open mic one day.  I probably should've written a blog on Stoicism.   xoxo Zoya

Don't talk to me before I've had my coffee...

Image
I was on a walk with my acquaintance and we went to espresso in Grainger and I saw "dirty chai" on the menu.  Who decided to name a coffee drink "dirty chai"???? Why is it dirty? It's coffee.... Like oh you're yearning for a coffee that likes to roll around in dirt and wash their hands annually? How about a dirty chai?  Oh- you want CHAI?  Sorry.. we only have this special brew....We designed this brew to encompass unwashed 20 year old P.E. jerseys and a frat house!  It's called dirty chai! Do you want??? Only $5 for a cup of dirtiness.  *AND I still haven't forgotten about the Unicorn Frappucino.... Get real people this is consumerism and it is making monsters out of coffee beans.   More of a rant than funny, but oh well.  Zoya

Running out of the funny

Image
Hey guys,  I have hit a funny-road-block. Funny things happened this week for sure, but I have no funny content that I can say I cultivated. To compensate, I'll share funny out of context moments from the show I'm currently watching: Arrested Development.                                                                                                                                             Next week is new week.  xoxo  Zoya

Junior boy gets PRANKED

I will be sharing funny things that happened per each remaining week. Here's something funny that happened this past Wednesday.  I was sitting in 6th period calculus in a group with Lukas, Ben, and Dmitry. We had white boards out because we were practicing implicit differentiation. I had finished my work, and wanted to play tic-tac-toe on my white board.  Dmitry was sitting in front of me, so I slid the board towards him, hoping to initate him to place an "O" in the grid in which my "X" was placed in the upper left-hand side.  Dmitry did not look up from his white board that had actual work on it, so I started to bump my trianglular table into his, hoping he would play.  Dmitry did not look up. Ms. Runkel switched to a slide which made Dmitry look away. In a quick move, I switched my tic-tac-toe white board with his and when he looked back, he was visibly confused and almost shocked that his white board disappeared.  Things are automatically funnier when you'

PEOPLE LAUGH AT MY JOKES??????

Hello everyone,  Although the past few days have been rough due to me becoming ill and feeling as though I would have no funny content to share for this week, it was resolved after last nights showing of "Studprod: A Sextuplet Feature". I wrote a script called "Jersey Day" about a couple from New Jersey saving a soccer team from a massive loss, and I directed a script called "Crayons" written by Junior Nathaniel Wiesbrook (B). As I sat in the very back of the North Attic overlooking the crowd I wondered if anybody would understand the humor in both my directing and my writing.  Crayons was the first show featured. Off the bat, I retained some chuckles from the audience. I was so proud of the actors for remembering their lines and stage movements. By the end of the script, I felt as though I was watching something brand new rather than something I directed, which was awesome.  The next show was the one I wrote, "Jersey Day". It was incredible to

😳I COSPLAYED WALTER WHITE?!😳

Last week I emailed the head of the champaign comedy scene, and I have yet to hear a response. It's looking like I won't be able to do open mics around town, so now I'm going to attempt to join an improv group on campus. If they don't let me in, I'll be sharing my journey writing my stand up comedy acts and I'll post a few videos of me performing them to an audience of some sort. Anyways. This past week was Halloween. Gee, I wonder what comedic character Zoya dressed up as!  You may be asking yourself. I cosplayed the fictional drug lord Walter White from the critically acclaimed television series "Breaking Bad".  So although I wasn't able to perform stand up comedy in bars, I was able to make people laugh with my costume. I call that a mission accomplished. Come back next week to see my comedic adventures unfold.  Zoya

Zoya's Comedy Journey

Over the next eight weeks I’m going to attempt to do stand-up sets in comedy clubs around Champaign-Urbana. I will be appealing my case to do these sets and blogging my progress because these clubs are 18+ and I'm 17. In the meantime, I will be posting funny comedy videos on social media to see how they do and if viewers enjoy my funny content. Right now, my first task is to email the head of Champaign stand up comedy to see if they'll let me perform. I’m excited to embark on my comedy journey, come back soon! Zoya
